Continue reading to find out everything you need to help your child achieve the grade he/she deserves.
1. Find out What the OC Test is
First, you must understand the OC test. You may be familiar with the basics, but it is important to understand the details of the test and the reasons your child is taking it. Students in year 5 (some in year 4) can participate in the opportunity class placement program.
These children are academically gifted and would benefit greatly from the opportunity class education. These classes are designed to give these gifted children an innovative education in a supportive environment. Each year, students are selected to take the OC test. It’s very competitive. You should prepare your child for this class as soon as possible.
2. Learn the Format
You now know what the OC exam is. It is important to understand the format so that your child can study for it. Knowing the format of the test will help you better assist your child.
There are three sections to the exam: reading, maths reasoning, and thinking skills. The test doesn’t grade your child on academic knowledge. It grades you on the basis of his or her learning abilities.
3. Have strong academic foundation
Strong academic foundations will make it easier for your child to do better in the OC exam.
This is why your child must put in a lot of effort during the school terms prior to the OC test, making sure that they are scoring at or above grade level in all academic subjects.
To determine the amount of work your child will need to do in the program, you can review his or her progress over the years.
4. Take Practice Tests
Your child will be given a time limit when taking the OC test. It is better for your child to take multiple practice tests.
Practice will be required for your child to not only answer the questions correctly but also to solve the problems within a given time frame.
Your child will be able to perform the test without pressure and feel comfortable. The test structure and the types of questions will be familiarised during the practise tests.
Maths and English writing anxiety is something many children have trouble with, especially if they are given a tight time limit. It’s a good idea to allow your child to practise them on regular basis.
5. Learn good reading habits
There are many difficulty levels in the OC test questions. Some questions can be difficult to understand while others may be more straightforward. You want your child to be able to comprehend questions as quickly and accurately as possible.
Reading comprehension is key to your child’s ability to understand what the questions are asking. Your child can be enrolled in an English tutoring class with a strong emphasis on the reading ability. Having him or her read regularly every week will also help improve their English reading skills.
